Affinity Water acknowledge and commend M&S Water

On the 6th April 2020, M&S Water featured in the Affinity Water daily ‘AW Heroes’ report. The report was regarding a burst water main which was discovered on Monday 30th March 2020 on a 500mm water main which fed two DMAs (District Meter Zones) and supplied over 3,800 customers.

M&S Water staff worked with our client Affinity Water to undertake a repair without interrupting the supply to any of the almost 4,000 customers that could have been affected.

M&S Water mobilised on Monday 30th March 2020 equipment including a Welfare Unit, 4” Pump, specialist pipe cutting equipment, Tower Lights, 14T Operated Machine, lifting equipment, supplied and supported by our sister company Rochford Plant Hire Ltd. Works started on Tuesday morning, 31st March 2020 and the team managed to keep the water flowing to all customers in the area with no reports of low pressure or other issues that would have signalled to Affinity Water that households/businesses were being affected by the works.

Once the fault was located, M&S Water’s Site Supervisor, Chris French worked with Contract’s Manager, Justin Moyney and Buyer, Jay Swift to source fittings from Affinity Water’s Central Stores and M&S Water’s Supply Chain, including assistance from Caldertech, Cascade Clamps and Wolseley PLC. Once the fittings were onsite the two M&S teams, Karl Rodell and Michael Elmer, Mark Fossey and Stuart Jepps, along with Support Driver Shaun Ward, worked through the night to complete a temporary repair. The following morning and into early evening the repair was continued and completed by a further two teams Colin Solomon and Adam Lock, Kenny Smith and Antony Gillooly. Affinity Water sampled the repair and on Monday 6th April 2020 after satisfactory water quality samples were confirmed the main was put back into service by a grateful Affinity Water.

Well done and thank you very much to these and all our teams working very hard during these difficult times to ensure we keep the water flowing.
