Frequently asked questions About Household Water Supply Pipes.

Water Supply Pipes

How much will my repair/replacement cost?

Because every job is unique, M & S Water offers a no charge site survey before any works commence. Due to the nature of the business, M & S cannot offer prices or quotes over the phone. However, our surveyors are more than happy to discuss your requirements upon meeting.

Does you work come with a guarantee on completion?

Yes. M & S Water provides a twenty year guarantee on all supply pipe relays. Should anything such as leaks occur during this period, M & S will return, repair the damage and then backfill and reinstate any excavations, closely matching the existing surfaces. Free of Charge.

Will you have to dig a trench to lay the pipe?

Where possible, we use trenchless technology. This means that there are only isolated excavations, all of which are backfilled and reinstated to a previous condition whenever able. You can see our ‘Moling’ illustration for details.

Can you use trenchless technology to install pipes other than water?

Yes. Using ducts we can also install gas pipes, electrical cables and fibre optics.

After the work is completed who reinstates the holes and how long does it take?

Once repairs and work is completed, our team will backfill any holes and excavations and then clean the worksite. M & S engineers will leave a pack at your property with explanations and guidance on the process.

It is regular practice that we leave excavations between 7 and 10 days in order to allow the ground to settle. This ensures excavations do not sink once we have reinstated them. A team of M & S specialist engineers will return after this period to restore excavations, closely matching the existing surfaces. Any remaining waste will also be cleared by us.

Will you make a appointment to reinstate the excavations?

Providing there are no access issues with the property, it is common practice for our team to return without making an appointment. However, should you wish to be present, this can easily be arranged.

Are you fully insured/certificated?

Yes. M & S are members of the Water Industry Approved Plumbers Scheme (WIAPS), WaterSafe, Trading Standards ‘Buy With Confidence Scheme’, CHAS, Constructionline, and ‘Safe Contractor’.

M&S are also approved by Affinity Water, Anglian Water, Thames Water, and Seven Trent Waters ‘Watermark Scheme’. Our insurances are currently 10 million public liability and 5 million employers’ liability.

Are your staff trained and certified?

Yes. It is standard that all staff have successfully passed a CRB Check, and hold a valid CSCS Card. Our staff are also WIAPS Registered and have successfully passed a EUSR Moling Course & EUSR Shea Water Passport.

M & S Staff also undertake further various training to prove their proficiency, including Water Hygiene Blue Card, New Roads and Street Works, and excavator training above and below 10 tonnes.

Do you only work on Household Water Supply Pipes?

No. Since incorporation, M & S have grown into a successful business that provides specialist services to a large portfolio of customers. These range from domestic householders to water authorities; we provide expertise in a myriad of fields including water, plumbing, drainage, directional drilling, fusion welding, leak detection and civil engineering, and RPZ valve testing.

I’m having my driveway replaced or building an extension, what do you recommend I do?

M & S recommends replacing your supply pipe in conjunction with having new building work such as extensions and driveways.  We have received numerous calls from distressed householders who have just had a new drive laid and shortly afterwards have discovered a leak. This is usually due to the vibrating machinery used when laying the new drive.  Many people also build extensions over the existing supply pipe, which means that when a leak is discovered the pipe work then has to be diverted.
